Speedy 35-minute cycle designed for busy Central Service Departments with heavy demand to process temperature- and moisture-sensitive instruments
TORONTO, Jan. 22 /CNW/ - SciCan Ltd., a full spectrum provider of infection control innovations and services, is officially launching a revolutionary new plasma sterilizer - the newest and fastest low temperature plasma sterilizer on the market designed for central service departments in hospitals and health care facilities.
"As technology in the operating room changes, the type of instrumentation being used is also changing and that requires more sophisticated sterilization devices like the HMTS," says Pat Hennessy, the Director of SciCan's North American medical sales, adding that the HMTS units are unique in that they can sterilize multi-channel flexible scopes, as well as a range of instruments and rigid scopes.
"Central service departments that have to process a lot of moisture and temperature sensitive instruments will want to have a look at this technology," says Hennessy.
Speed is also a major advantage the HMTS technology has put forward when competing in the plasma sterilization field. High-voltage activation of the plasma, a pump with more horsepower, and a highly efficient transfer of vacuum are a few factors that help shorten the overall cycle times.
"Typical cycle times for machines out there are between 55 and 75 minutes, ours run between 35 and 40 minutes," says Hennessy.
Beyond its easy touch-screen, Windows-based operation and straight-forward install (no plumbing or piping, it just needs a power outlet), HMTS technology is 100% clean. When a cycle is complete, there is nothing left over but water and oxygen, with no concern over chemical residue or environmentally harmful byproducts.
As for efficiency, users in other countries have reported a decline in costs per cycle as these units do not require 'booster' packs, often employed in many plasma sterilizers to ensure the thorough cleaning of a scope's lumens. Rather, HMTS technology generates increased pressure in the chamber, which in turn provides a more even distribution of the vaporized hydrogen peroxide.
"The HMTS line complements our innovative and unique product portfolio and reinforces our position as a full solution provider in Canada for infection control," says SciCan's Vice President, Andrew Zwingenberger
The newest addition to SciCan's medical division, the plasma HMTS line features small, medium and large volume models to meet the demands of a variety of health care situations.
SciCan Ltd. is headquartered in Toronto, Canada, with subsidiaries in the USA, Germany and Switzerland. SciCan products are distributed to more than 90 countries worldwide.
