Scenario Learning Announces New Health & Safety Courses to Meet Ontario OHSA Training Mandate

New courses available through the SafeSchools and SafePersonnel Online Staff Training Systems help organizations comply with health and safety awareness training by July 1 deadline

CINCINNATI, May 7, 2014 /CNW/ - To help Ontario schools, municipalities, cities and businesses meet Ontario Regulation 297/13 under the Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), Scenario Learning announces the development of three new courses for the SafeSchools and SafePersonnel Online Staff Training Systems.

The OHSA initiative requires health and safety awareness training for every worker and supervisor in Ontario by July 1, 2014. The three courses added to the SafeSchools and SafePersonnel Online Staff Training Systems are market-specific and include:

  • Health and Safety Awareness for Staff: Addresses a number of workplace safety issues that are common in many work environments.
  • Health and Safety Training for Supervisors: Explores the supervisor's role in safety, as well as how to effectively apply best practices to ensure everyone's safety in the workplace.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS): Covers identifying, managing and controlling common workplace hazards.

"Ontario schools, businesses and organizations need an efficient and effective way to administer and track this newly required training, and our web-based staff training systems are a perfect solution," said Scenario Learning CEO Brian Taylor. "Our new courses can be assigned and completed through any web-enabled device, and completions are tracked automatically, making compliance with OR 297/13 a simple process."

The SafeSchools Online Staff Training System has helped thousands of districts around the world reduce costs and increase safety through effective staff training. Districts that have most successfully implemented the online training program have realized a 51 percent decrease in the severity of property and liability claims and a 58 percent decrease in workers' compensation claims – saving hundreds of thousands of educational dollars a year. In addition to staff training, the SafeSchools suite includes solutions for bullying reporting and tracking, accident tracking and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory management.

The SafePersonnel Online Staff Training System can help employers provide safer workplaces and has been customized for municipalities, non-profits, businesses and other non-academic organizations. In addition to staff training, the SafePersonnel suite includes solutions for safety incident reporting and tracking, and Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory management.
