HALIFAX, Dec. 15 /CNW/ - Royal Roads Corp. (RRO - TSX-V) ("Royal Roads" or the "Company") is pleased to announce assay results from a recently completed two hole diamond drilling program at its 100% owned Buchans North base metal sulphide prospect in central Newfoundland. The program was designed to assess an undeveloped prospect and test for possible extensions into areas where large accumulations of high grade massive sulphides may be discovered. The first hole, H-3415, intersected massive sulphides assaying 15.50% copper, 1.85% lead, 5.80% zinc, 214.8 g/t silver and 2.92 g/t gold over 0.30 metres. The second hole, H-3416, intersected massive sulphides averaging, 15.52% zinc, 7.61% lead, 0.92% copper, 148.9 g/t silver and 1.15 g/t gold over 2.1 metres. Royal Roads considers these results to be very positive as they suggest mineralization extends beyond previously interpreted limits and occurs within a discrete mineralized horizon that remains poorly tested by previous drilling. A follow-up drilling program is in the planning stage and is expected to take place in 2010. A table summarizing assay highlights is presented below.

Hole H-3415 was drilled 22 metres north northwest of historic hole H-885, drilled by Asarco in the early 1950's, that previously returned assays averaging 23.7% zinc, 9.0% lead, 2.6% copper, 147.4 g/t silver and 3.4 g/t gold over 2.74 metres. The second hole, H-3416, was drilled 63 metres north of H-3415.

The Buchans North prospect was discovered by previous mine operators, Asarco, in the early 1950s, 500 metres northwest of the former Oriental Mine, where Asarco, mined *3.3 million tonnes averaging 14.18% Zn, 7.90% lead, 1.47% copper, 154.0 g/t silver and 1.96 g/t gold between 1935 and 1983. The prospect was last drilled in 1967, and occurs approximately 290 metres below surface within a less explored, faulted repeat of the same horizon that hosts the Oriental mine. Interpretation of previous drilling suggests the Buchans North horizon may still be open in several directions where further exploration may track mineralization into less explored areas where additional deposits similar to Oriental could be discovered.

    Other Work
    ----------

The Company also advises that recently announced additional field programs consisting of line cutting and Induced Polarization (IP) surveys at Buchans are now complete and the Company expects to receive results later this month. The surveys were designed to detect broad zones of near surface stockwork base metal sulphide mineralization that may be amenable to bulk tonnage open pit mining and targeted the undeveloped Lundberg zone as well as the area surrounding the former Oriental mine.

    Background
    ----------

Royal Roads is exploring its 100% owned Buchans project for high grade sulphide deposits similar to those mined by former mine operator ASARCO between 1928 and 1984. Buchans represents one of the highest grade base metal mining camps in Canadian history having produced 16.2 million tonnes(xx) of ore from five orebodies averaging 14.51% zinc, 1.33% copper, 7.56% lead, 126 g/t silver and 1.37g/t gold.

In addition to exploring for new high grade discoveries, the Company is also examining the former mines for potential to host near surface, bulk tonnage mineralization that may be amenable to open pit mining. On November 7, 2008, Royal Roads announced a NI-43-101 compliant Inferred Resource for the Lundberg deposit totaling 20.7 million tonnes grading 2.78% combined base metals comprised of 1.68% zinc, 0.72% lead, and 0.38% copper, including a higher grade Inferred Resource totaling 5.34 million tonnes grading 4.76% combined base metals averaging 3.02% zinc, 1.25% lead, 0.49% copper, 10.27 g/t silver and 0.12 g/t gold (Royal Roads news release dated November 7, 2009).

    Qualified Person & Sampling Procedure
    -------------------------------------

Drill intercepts quoted are core lengths. While true widths could not be accurately measured based upon core angles, reported widths are considered to be near true as the geology is interpreted to be essentially horizontal. Logging, sampling and assaying procedures were completed as per Royal Roads' QA/QC protocols as described in Royal Roads' press release dated February 27th, 2007. Paul Moore, M.Sc., P.Geo., (NL), Royal Roads' Vice President of Exploration, is acting as Qualified Person in compliance with National Instrument 43-101 with respect to this release and has reviewed the contents for accuracy.
