RNAO opens annual Media Awards competition

TORONTO, Dec. 12, 2016 /CNW/ - Ontario journalists who have produced outstanding nursing and health-care stories over the past year are invited to nominate them for the Registered Nurses' Association of Ontario's (RNAO) 2016 Media Awards.

The annual competition honours reporters, editors and producers that keep the public informed and contribute to public dialogue on important health-care issues. Awards are handed out in a variety of categories, as judged by a volunteer panel of nurses and fellow journalists.

Past Media Awards winners include journalists from CBC Radio, Maclean's, and Global News. Their work shed light on vital issues such as violence against nurses, gaps in Ontario's home care system, and transgender rights. This year saw a number of health-care stories make headlines, including legalized medical assistance in dying, supervised injection services, and Ontario's plans for health system transformation.
