With the bustle of Christmas over, January is soundly upon us, meaning that many are scurrying to begin their dreaded New Year's Resolutions. In fact, nowhere is this image more prevalent than when speaking about getting fit and healthy. Losing weight, eating healthier and changing your life (style) are at the top of the list for things to re-commit to when the New Year rolls in. You don't believe me, says Lee Davy, Co-Founder of Dynamic Conditioning Centres in Toronto, "all you have to do is look at the number of new members at fitness clubs around the globe - they jump ten-fold."
If a New Year's resolution is the single largest mental stimulus for recommitting in January, then perhaps No.'s 2 through 4, is the fact that 1/3 of Torontonians are overweight, while 1 in 9 are considered obese, with 40.4 % considered to be over their acceptable weight, (reported the Toronto Sun).
"We need to get people hungry for fitness, get them to enjoy their training programs" said Davy, "So we've designed the 'Out of Your box' Bodyfat Challenge set to launch for our 2nd annual January. Think Biggest Loser - Toronto/DCC style. What better time to get people excited about living the life they've dreamed than in January?" Davy continued.
We want to turn those resolutions into opportunities to challenge people - to "Challenge T.O." - to take their health and fitness goals and keep the fire burning long after the first couple of months pass. We want Toronto to stand up and train their way to fitness without letting a set back here and there translate into a reason to quit.
We want Toronto to become the Fittest City in the world" continues Davy, "a spot that leaves much work to be done - we are middle of the pack just in Canada" (StatsCan National Population Health Survey).
What better way to begin then in January with your New Year's Resolution?
