TORONTO, Dec. 14 /CNW/ - What will Ontario look like moving forward out of the recession? What does Ontario need to become a 21st-century powerhouse? Could the new Ontario be a green Ontario? How can your community contribute and benefit and what is needed to move the agenda forward? The Agenda with Steve Paikin will be On the Road again this winter visiting three towns across the province to hear from citizens about how Ontario is being reinvented in the new economy.
The first stop of these two-day, interactive events will be in London on the campus of the University of Western Ontario and will feature a daylong workshop called AgendaCamp on Sunday, January 31 and a live, on-location broadcast of The Agenda with Steve Paikin the following night, Monday February 1 at 8 pm ET.
"TVO is part of the social fabric of Ontario," says TVO's Chief Executive Officer, Lisa de Wilde. "And our On the Road events are all about building cohesive communities by enabling a province-wide conversation on what we need to become a global leader for the 21st century. It's a great example of what makes public television in Ontario so unique: our goal is to make a positive difference in people's lives."
Last year TVO and The Agenda with Steve Paikin took citizen engagement and community outreach to a whole new level with the popular five-city Agenda on the Road tour exploring Ontario's regional economies. This year, like last, AgendaCamps will be integral to the success of the tour. The TVO-hosted daylong community forums will bring together community leaders, policymakers, members of the public, program guests, anchor and senior editor Steve Paikin and invited bloggers to share ideas about re-imagining Ontario in the 21st century. Participants will also help determine the agenda for the live broadcast of The Agenda with Steve Paikin the following day.
"I'm looking forward to taking the show on the road again this year," says Steve Paikin. "I found the experience last year to be extremely gratifying - watching people of different backgrounds, different age groups, and different demographics who just connected on so many different levels. It was just so moving and exciting to watch and be a part of. And I'm thrilled we're kicking off the tour in London on the campus of the University of Western Ontario where my parents went to school."
To participate in and propose a session for AgendaCamp, or for free tickets to be part of the live audience the following day, to go to tvo.org/agendacamp to register beginning December 14.
The next dates for Agenda on the Road are:
February 28 and March 1, 2010 - Brockville
March 21 and 22, 2010 - TBD
