RICHMOND, BC, Feb. 5, 2016 /CNW/ - The President of the Building Officials' Association of BC (BOABC), Mr. Manjit Sohi BSc, RBO, CRBO, announced today that the Association's Executive Committee unanimously carried a motion proposing giving assistance to refugees in British Columbia.
Under the proposal, refugees who have previously been professionally trained and employed in the building/construction industry in their home countries will be given a free one year membership in the BOABC, together with free access to training and examinations. The aim is to educate them and assist them in becoming eligible to be employed as Building Officials by local municipalities in British Columbia.
Mr. Sohi stated that "The BOABC Executive Committee is firmly committed to assisting refugees to integrate into Canadian society and find meaningful employment."
The BOABC will be reaching out to refugee settlement organizations for assistance in identifying suitable candidates. The BOABC is also requesting private refugee sponsors to contact them if they have suitable candidates.
