Record breaking field turns out for Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival

- Massive field creates more than $1.5 million prize pool; tsn.ca to feature live web-stream of Main Event -

MONTREAL, Oct. 1, 2013 /CNW/ - A tournament in Quebec has set a new Canadian record for number of entrants in a poker tournament. The Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival Main Event drew 1,625 entrants, smashing the previous Canadian record of 1,173 players for a $1,100 buy-in tournament, one of the largest fields ever for a $1,100 buy-in event. Players from all over the world turned out in Montreal to try and claim a portion of the $1 million guaranteed prize pool, which has grown by more than half a million dollars to $1,576,250 due to the record number of entries.

"Quebec is a hotbed for poker, home to some of the most talented players in the world, including 2010 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Jonathan Duhamel and finalist at this year's WSOP Marc-Étienne McLaughlin, both of whom played in this event," says Geoff Fardy, Full Tilt Poker Country Manager. "Full Tilt Poker is thrilled to bring a tournament of this calibre to Quebec and have the opportunity to host many of these outstanding players. Breaking the Canadian record is a great indication of the quality of the tournament and Canadians' love of live poker."

The Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival is taking place at the Playground Poker Club on Montreal's south shore. As the huge main event field is whittled down to one winner, the action is being live-streamed so all Canadians can tune in at tsn.ca (http://www.tsn.ca/feature/?id=106635). The live stream will follow the action from Monday, September 30, through to the final table on October 4.

"As the numbers can attest, the Full Tilt Poker Montreal Festival has received amazing support from the poker community across the province and the country.  As a result, there will be a major payday for someone this week. We're excited to offer a live stream, which will allow poker enthusiasts across the world to tune in and watch the action from the Canadian tournament," says Fardy.
