TORONTO, April 21, 2015 /CNW/ - Retail Council of Canada (RCC) welcomes today's federal budget, which continues to reduce taxes on Canadian merchants. "The proposed measure boosting the small business deduction will help make Canada's independent retailers more competitive in the face of strong Global competition," said Dave Wilkes, RCC's Senior Vice President of Government Relations. "This budget builds on the government's overall record of lowering the corporate income tax rate from 22 per cent to 15 per cent."
RCC applauds today's announcement to establish an Internal Trade Promotion Office to eliminate trade barriers within our borders. Retailers also welcome the government's restated commitment to reduce regulatory inconsistencies between Canada and U.S. On behalf of its members, RCC will continue to advocate for lower barriers to trade, wherever they occur. "Given this strong mandate, we are disappointed that the government did not seize the opportunity in Budget 2015 to build upon the tariff reductions announced in 2013," said Wilkes. "These duties, which can be as high as 18 per cent, impede the competitiveness of Canadian merchants and negatively impact prices for Canadian consumers."
Retailers welcome the government's proposal to work with trade associations to foster the development of in-demand job skills. RCC will continue to build programs to help Canadians access the many interesting and rewarding employment opportunities offered in our sector.
