/R E P E A T -- Video B-Roll available via CNW - Fire Chiefs and Teachers
launch National Fire Safety Campaign/

TORONTO, Sept. 30 /CNW/ - The following video is available by satellite or by CNW's Broadcast On-Demand web download:

STORY SUMMARY: Canada's largest-ever fire safety education campaign kicks off October 4th and will involve thousands of primary school teachers and firefighters across the country. The Canadian Association of Fire Chief's "Great Canadian Fire Drill" is at the focal point of this year's Fire Prevention Week that runs from October 4th -10th. An estimated 75,000 teachers nationwide in grades K-3 have been sent special Lesson Plans and classroom materials to help them teach young students the important task of creating a fire Escape Plan. Youngsters will then put their new knowledge to work with their siblings and parents to create and practice an Escape Plan at home.

Free Fire Escape Planning Guides are also available for download at www.safeathome.ca

In the B-roll, Fire Chiefs representing every Province and Territory, emphasize how the Great Canadian Fire Drill will reach families through kids.

Ten percent of fire deaths in Canada involve children. Parents need to involve their children in preparing and practicing a home fire Escape Plan. Escape plans, together with working smoke alarms, greatly increase the odds of surviving a fire.
