Gentherm Global Power Technologies provides power where it's needed
CALGARY, April 13, 2015 /CNW/ - From thermoelectric technology that provided power on the moon to more than 30,000 installations right here on Earth, a company started by oil and gas entrepreneurs 40 years ago has embarked on a new partnership and a new name, Gentherm Global Power Technologies (GPT). The unveiling will be held on April 16th, 2015 3pm - 5pm at the Sheraton Eau Claire Barclay Parade SW. Calgary, AB
Formerly Global Thermoelectric, GPT delivers a variety of power generation solutions for remote industrial applications anywhere in the world. Acquired by Gentherm a year ago, GPT is the "world standard" for remote power generation systems.
"We do the most interesting and challenging projects in equally interesting and challenging places," says James Bolen, president of GPT. "Being acquired by Gentherm means we're going to be everything we ever were to our customers, but better, because now we can invest in new products and new technologies to better serve our customers."
GPT provides solutions for remote power needs for gas pipelines, wellheads, offshore platforms, telecommunications, security, surveillance and monitoring. With installations in 55 countries and counting, GPT is exploring new markets and new ways to serve its growing number of customers, from Kazakhstan to Indonesia.
"There are a number of markets that are underserved. Our customers are telling us they want more products and they want them from us. Now we can go and develop them," says Bolen. "We're already seeing growth at a pretty fast rate."
GPT started in 1975 when entrepreneurs from the oil and gas industry acquired thermoelectric technology developed by 3M to generate power for NASA's Apollo program on the moon. They adapted the technology for the oil and gas and telecom markets in Alberta.
Gentherm dates back to 1960, as a German company that developed technology for heated car seats. Today, the large multinational corporation produces a wide variety of thermoelectric products for the automotive and power generation industries.
