MONTREAL, April 17, 2012 /CNW Telbec/ - The 10th World Congress of the International Cartilage Repair Society (ICRS) will be held at the Fairmont, The Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montréal, May 12 to 15, 2012. This congress will communicate major advances in treating cartilage injuries and provide future direction for scientific and clinical research in joint diseases.
More than 1,000 physicians and scientists from 70 countries will be in attendance, along with 30 companies presenting on the exhibit floor. Cartilage repair technologies, which offer the possibility of providing patients with earlier and less invasive treatment options for pain and impaired mobility due to osteoarthritis, are seen as a much needed alternative to ablative procedures like joint replacement.
Organizers of this major conference, which will generate considerable economic benefits, were able to count on the support of the Tourisme Montréal team. "It is an honour for our city to host a group of specialists who are abreast of the latest technologies in this field. We are confident that their stay in Montréal will be an enjoyable one and that they will contribute to the enrichment of the knowledge base of our local medical professionals," said the Honourable Charles Lapointe, President and Chief Executive Officer of Tourisme Montréal.
The scientific programme of the event includes 200 leading speakers from across the globe, honorary lectures, and special sessions and workshops addressing a number of critical topics, including platelet rich plasma and joint tissue healing, cell free approaches for cartilage repair, the influence of subchondral bone on cartilage repair, one-stage procedures for cartilage repair, joint lubrication, and rehabilitation techniques.
