20,000 people will come together to march against poverty

MONTRÉAL, Sept. 26, 2016 /CNW Telbec/ - Centraide of Greater Montreal will kick off its 2016 fundraising campaign on September 29, at 11:30 a.m., under the theme "Poverty has consequences".

Some 20,000 people will march together in the streets of downtown Montreal during Centraide's March of 1,000 Umbrellas.

TIMETABLE:

11:30 a.m.

Participants gather on McGill College Avenue, between St. Catherine Street
West and Sherbrooke Street.



11:45 a.m.

Interviews with Lili-Anna Pereša, President and Executive Director of
Centraide of Greater Montreal, and Isabelle Marcoux, Chair of the Board of
Transcontinental and Co-Chair of Campaign 2016, as well as representatives
of community agencies and people they help (media tent at the corner of
St. Catherine Street and McGill College Avenue).



12:00 noon

Welcoming address.


Launch of Generation C, a program to engage young donors.


Departure of the march in the direction of the Quartier des spectacles.



12:30 p.m.

Arrival at the Quartier des spectacles.


Performance by Koriass, an aspiring and engaging hip hop artist.

 

PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES:

Four raised platforms will be installed for photographers and camera operators wishing to take overhead shots of the march:

  • Two at the corner of St. Catherine Street and McGill College Avenue (southwest corner)
  • One on St. Catherine Street, at the corner of City Councillors Street
  • One at the Place des Festivals
