  • In partnership with the Running Room and the federal government, the Canadian Cancer Society (CCS) is offering the innovative Run to Quit program, an effective new way to quit smoking which integrates running or walking into smoking cessation.
  • Overall results show that 91% of participants said they had cut back on smoking. 97% reported Run to Quit helped them to exercise more.

 

WHAT:

Run to Quit is a unique program that pairs the quit-smoking expertise of the Canadian Cancer Society with Running Room Canada's learn to walk or run 5 km clinics. The step-by-step program helps smokers cope with discomfort and cravings through its simple and encouraging approach to cutting down while they become more physically active.

Participants and spokesperson will be available for interviews from
10 a.m. to noon.

WHO:

A Run to Quit participant from last year, a smoker who will register for the Run to Quit Spring session and a runner who used to smoke will be available to talk to the media about their motivation to quit smoking. Experts will also discuss the program and its effectiveness.
