/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - RNs and Social Workers to Hold Information Picket in Jarvis Haldimand-Norfolk Community Addiction & Mental Health Services/
JARVIS, ON, Sept. 27, 2015 /CNW/ - Registered nurses (RNs) and social workers -- members of the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) -- will hold an information picket on Monday to educate the public about issues they face at Haldimand-Norfolk Community Addiction & Mental Health Services (HNCAMHS).
The 23 RNs and social workers provide community-based, client-focused services for those requiring mental health services in Haldimand-Norfolk. The health-care providers are heading to conciliation bargaining on October 7 in an effort to avoid being forced on strike, resulting in the withdrawal of critical mental health services to their almost 850 patients in their homes.
Local resident Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, Provincial President of ONA, notes that "our dedicated RNs and social workers are there for our patients 24 hours a day, providing crisis support and face-to-face assessments and short-term follow-up crisis counselling for the people in our community. They also provide specialized geriatric services for our elderly patients, with treatment, care, and support for older adults and their families who face mental health issues combined with age-related difficulties."
ONA representatives will be with the RNs and social workers as they picket at the site where the facility's board will be meeting.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 front-line registered nurses and allied health professionals as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in Ontario hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, industry and clinics.
