/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Registered nurses to mark May Day by going
door-to-door to stop Toronto East General Hospital nursing cuts/
TORONTO, April 30 /CNW/ - Registered nurses (RNs) in East York will mark May Day - also known as International Workers' Day - by going door to door in East York to ask residents to help stop cuts to RN positions at the Toronto East General Hospital (TEGH).
The RNs, joined by nursing students and concerned community members, will discuss the implications for patient care as a result of the more than 120 RN cuts that have been announced by the TEGH. Residents will be asked to contact the hospital's CEO and Ontario Health Minister Deb Matthews to remind local management and the government that these cuts are not acceptable.
The Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) has tracked approximately 2,045 registered nursing cuts in Ontario in the last year. Each RN position cut represents the loss of 2,000 hours of nursing care for residents.
