/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Registered Nurses, CAMH Workers to Protest Workplace Violence/
TORONTO, Nov. 7, 2016 /CNW/ - Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) member Registered Nurses (RNs) and health-care workers from the Centre for Addiction and Mental Health (CAMH) will hold a rally tomorrow outside the Ontario Hospital Association's "Health Achieve" conference.
The RNs and health-care providers will protest workplace violence at the facility and the lack of action on the part of their employer.
CAMH is the worst facility in the province for the sheer volume of violent incidents directed at staff. Just weeks ago, an RN was brutally beaten while working at CAMH; the Ministry of Labour is still investigating that incident.
ONA members are calling for increased management accountability for these incidents and action to eliminate workplace violence. They note that legislation exists that calls for the employer to take every precaution possible in the circumstance to protect staff.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates, providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
