/R E P E A T -- Media advisory - ISO standards - Québec City hosts international working group on organizational governance/ Français
QUÉBEC CITY, MAY 18, 2017 /CNW Telbec/ - Québec City will soon become a hub of innovation in the field of good governance for organizations. The independence of board members, integrity, transparency and fairness in organizational governance will be on the agenda from May 22 to 26, at the Québec City Convention Centre. Some 70 experts, from 34 countries, will begin international negotiations to build a new ISO standard for organizational governance.
The ISO/TC 309 standard, covering governance of organizations, will certify that a company and its management respect the principles of good governance. This standard will cover, among other things, aspects relating to management, control and responsibility. Inspired by best practices in the international arena in the area of governance, it will provide organizations with a system of workable rules to help ensure their growth and stability.
Mr Christian Levesque, President of LEVESQUE Strategies, has been selected by the Standards Council of Canada to preside the Canadian committee and to serve as head of the Canadian delegation. He previously served in the same role for the development of the ISO 37001 standard: 2016, on antibribery management systems. Several other members of the ISO/TC 309 working group have also previously contributed to the development of the ISO 37001 standard.
"The reputation and credibility of large organizations, both public and private, have been profoundly shaken in recent years. The daily news brings us constant reminders of this type of problem, which saps public trust in organizations. Good governance has become a worldwide issue, and the future standard will allow companies to operate more efficiently when it comes to adopting best practices and remaining competitive. Also, I am very proud that the committee chose Québec City as the site to begin our work," said Mr Levesque.
The ISO/TC 309 standard will also serve as the overall standard which will guide other regulations concerned with governance, such as the ISO 37001. The work of negotiation and writing drafts will extend over five years.
