/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Front-Line Registered Nurses to Mark 2015 Day of Mourning/
TORONTO, April 27, 2015 /CNW/ - Front-line registered nurses and allied health professionals will join workers across the province in marking the 2015 Day of Mourning tomorrow.
In Toronto, RNs and leaders from the Ontario Nurses' Association will be at two events – one in High Park at noon, and the other at the Woodbridge Memorial Area in York Region. ONA members will also be attending ceremonies in other cities.
ONA members will remember those who have been killed or injured on the job, including registered nurses Tecla Lin and Nelia Laroza (who contracted and died of SARS while caring for patients) and Lori Dupont, who was murdered in Windsor while working in the recovery room of Hotel-Dieu Grace Hospital.
RNs are among the most ill and injured on the job of all professionals, including firefighters and police. Workplace violence and injuries are an issue that the Ontario Nurses' Association is deeply concerned about.
ONA is the union representing 60,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care, the community, public health, clinics and industry.
