/R E P E A T -- Media Advisory - Community Living workers in St. Thomas to hold information picket Mar. 11/

ST. THOMAS, ON, March 10, 2015 /CNW/ - Unionized employees at Community Living Elgin will stage an information picket on Mar. 11 to protest the planned layoffs of an undetermined number of staff members and other unfair workplace practices.

The affected employees, members of Local 151 of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU), have been working without a contract since Mar. 31, 2014. More than 250 OPSEU members work for Community Living Elgin.

The workers have been notified that at least four full-time staff members and an undetermined number of part-time workers will be laid off, despite an increase in funding from the Ministry of Community and Social Services. They are also displeased by the fact that their employer owes many employees a total of about $275,000 in unpaid pay equity adjustments.

The employees provide services to people with developmental disabilities.
