OTTAWA, Oct. 25, 2016 /CNW/ -

Who: The Canadian Wind Energy Association (CanWEA) and its partner Hannover Fairs (Canada) proudly welcome Canadian and international wind and renewable energy experts to gather at CanWEA's 32nd Annual Conference and Exhibition on November 1-3, 2016 at the BMO Centre in Calgary, Alberta.

What: CanWEA's 2016 Conference and Exhibition is Canada's largest wind energy conference, attracting close to 1,500 attendees and well over 100 exhibiting companies from around the world. It's the place to see wind energy-related products and services, learn industry brand names, network with leading industry decision makers, generate numerous first-rate business leads, and hear from influential utility leaders and policymakers. CanWEA 2016 exhibitors are leaders in the wind industry and are dedicated to supporting CanWEA's efforts to advance wind energy industry policy, communications, and business development objectives. Please see our detailed program.

Where: BMO Centre, 20 Roundup Way SW, Calgary, Alberta, T2G 2W1

Why: Today, wind energy plays a significant and growing role in delivering clean, safe and affordable energy as Canada's provinces look to build more diverse, robust, and sustainable electricity systems and position themselves to compete in the rapidly advancing low-carbon economy. Maintaining this momentum will require continued commitments to long-term, aggressive targets for wind energy development and a stable policy framework, along with responsible and sustainable industry practices. This year's conference brings these discussions to the heart of emerging new opportunities for wind in Canada, as the Alberta and Saskatchewan governments make renewable energy a central part of their climate change strategies.

Keynote speakers include:

  • The Honourable Catherine McKenna, Federal Minister of Environment and Climate Change
  • The Honourable Shannon Phillips, Alberta's Minister of Environment and Parks and Minister Responsible for the Climate Change Office
  • His Worship Naheed Nenshi, Calgary Mayor
  • Mr. Guy Bruce, Vice-President, Planning, Environment and Sustainable Development, SaskPower
  • Mr. Michael Law, Vice-President, Renewables Development and Sustainability, Alberta Electricity System Operator (AESO)
