Public servants honoured during award ceremony

OTTAWA, June 14 /CNW Telbec/ - Today, the Public Service of Canada honoured 208 outstanding employees during the Public Service Award of Excellence ceremony held today in Gatineau, Québec. The Award recognizes some of the many public servants who have demonstrated excellence, professionalism and leadership in serving Canadians.

"This yearly event gives us a wonderful opportunity to recognize the outstanding work and achievements of Canada's public service employees," said the Honourable Stockwell Day, President of the Treasury Board and Minister for the Asia-Pacific Gateway. "I was pleased to attend this important event and I want to congratulate all of today's award recipients. Their hard work and dedication to the job are an inspiration."

Wayne G. Wouters, Clerk of the Privy Council, was present at the ceremony to hand out some of the awards and personally recognize the recipients.

"From helping to celebrate veterans to providing income security for Canadians, and from helping the government become more environmentally friendly to supporting Canadians deployed in Afghanistan, this year's recipients embody the spirit of what it means to be a public servant," said Mr. Wouters.

The Award is given in ten categories: Outstanding Career; Exemplary Contribution Under Extraordinary Circumstances; Management Excellence; Innovation; Excellence in Citizen-focused Service Delivery; Employment Equity and Diversity; Official Languages; Youth; Excellence in Policy; and the Joan Atkinson Award.
