Canadian Red Cross sees a 25% increase in contributions this afternoon
TORONTO, Jan. 18 /CNW/ - In an interview with Charles Adler on today's Operation Haiti radiothon featured on Corus' news-talk network, The Right Honourable Stephen Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, praised Canadians for their efforts in assisting the people of Haiti.
The Prime Minister also praised the efforts of the Canadian Armed Forces, recognized the Canadian and worldwide response to the people of Haiti and acknowledged the challenges that are being faced as the world reacts to this terrible tragedy.
"It was a great honour to have Prime Minister Stephen Harper join Corus Entertainment's Operation Haiti," said Doug Rutherford, Vice President, Western Radio, Corus Entertainment. "The incredible response to our Red Cross appeal from listeners across the Corus news-talk network made us all proud to be Canadians."
"The compassion and generosity of the Canadian public, government and business in response to the Haiti earthquake has been immediate and overwhelming," said Conrad Sauvé, secretary general and CEO of the Canadian Red Cross. "With three million people in urgent need of humanitarian assistance in Haiti, we encourage more Canadians to join our donors in providing essential cash assistance to rapidly deliver aid, restore hope and invest in rebuilding Haiti's future."
