SAN FRANCISCO, March 10 /CNW/ - Kevin M. Warren, chairman, president and CEO of Xerox Canada, has been selected to receive the 2010 Excellence in Communication Leadership (EXCEL) Award from the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC). The EXCEL Award is the association's highest award given to a non-member, and recognizes individuals who exhibit strong leadership in fostering excellence in organizational communication. Warren is scheduled to accept the award on 7 June at the IABC 2010 World Conference in Toronto.
Warren began his Xerox career in 1984, as a sales trainee in Washington D.C. He assumed sales and sales management positions with increasing levels of responsibility, including manager of sales operations, solutions manager for the D.C. commercial marketplace and vice president of federal sales for the U.S. In 2007, he led the successful integration of Global Imaging Systems, a US$1.5 billion purchase, into Xerox. In his current position, Warren is responsible for the business operations of Xerox Canada, including human resources, customer service, marketing and sales.
"Kevin Warren is a great role model for how a business leader should communicate. He is balanced across the board in his approach to leadership, diverse audiences, innovative communications, his strategy for growing the business, and relating to and motivating employees," said Glenda R. Holmes, ABC, chair of the EXCEL Award selection committee.
Warren has been an advocate of communication from the start. He clearly understands the relationship of employee communication to engagement, and ultimately to business success. The positive impact of his commitment has been far-reaching and extended beyond employees to all his constituencies. His enthusiasm and commitment to communication is evident and contagious, as his fellow senior leaders at Xerox have also recently expanded their communication's breadth and reach.
"The distinction of being named IABC's EXCEL Award winner for 2010 means a lot," said Warren. This recognition reflects the value Xerox places on communication; a value I share. It is inherent to our unique culture and key to our business success. I take pride in joining past recipients."
Past recipients of the EXCEL Award include: Brian J. Dunn, president and chief operating officer of Best Buy Co. Inc.; J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman and CEO of Marriott International; Stu Reed, executive vice president of Motorola's Integrated Supply Chain; Rajesh Subramaniam, president of FedEx Canada; Mark Hurd, CEO of Hewlett Packard Company; and many others.
Warren earned his bachelor of science degree in finance from Georgetown University in 1984, and recently graduated from the Harvard Business School's Advanced Management Program (AMP). Warren was named one of Black Enterprise magazine's "100 Most Powerful Executives in Corporate America," and is an advisory board member of the first international chapter of the National Black MBA Association. He sits on the national board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America and is also a member of the Executive Leadership Council (ELC) and the Young Presidents Organization (YPO). Warren is also a board member of the Conference Board of Canada.
