WASHINGTON, Sept. 19, 2016 /CNW/ -- Over 90 BAPS Swaminarayan Sanstha Mandirs across the United States held tribute assemblies honoring the life and work of their late Hindu spiritual leader, His Holiness Pramukh Swami Maharaj.
Individuals from all walks of life, including community leaders, religious figures and public officials, offered a glimpse into the life and work of Pramukh Swami Maharaj by fondly recalling personal memories and offering touching tributes.
One such personal message was offered by the President of the United States, Barack Obama: "By paying tribute to a man who believed in the worth of all people and dedicated himself to serving those in need, we are reminded of the ways our common humanity will always bind us together."
President Obama lauded the late spiritual leader of BAPS by noting that Pramukh Swami Maharaj "was a trusted ear and revered voice for countless people, and the lessons of his humility stirred not only the hearts of his followers, but also of men and women across the globe who were fortunate enough to have crossed his path."
Emotional devotees and well-wishers vividly recalled moments with Pramukh Swami Maharaj and cherished memories that transformed their lives.
Pramukh Swami Maharaj was a spiritual guide who empowered people to live morally upright lives rooted in devotion that would transform their character and outcomes to provide greater happiness for themselves and their families. But he was not just a spiritual guru, but a father, teacher, friend and confidant. "Pramukh Swami Maharaj was my rock. Whenever I hit a roadblock in life, I always looked to his life for comfort and guidance," added Aashika Patel of Los Angeles, California.
The tribute assemblies also included tributes from local, state and federal officials who have witnessed the impact of Pramukh Swami Maharaj in the United States. Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and Former U.S. President Bill Clinton's message was read in the assemblies: "Pramukh Swami didn't just teach virtues – he lived them every day… His example helped his followers find more harmony – both with others, and within themselves. And we hope that humanity will build upon his legacy for generations to come."
Under the leadership of His Holiness Mahant Swami Maharaj, BAPS will continue to build on Pramukh Swami Maharaj's legacy of serving communities in need, empowering the underprivileged, and inspiring all to lead more compassionate lives.
