Canadian debut of the Macan Turbo with Performance Package and 911 GT3 Cup car
TORONTO, Feb. 16, 2017 /CNW/ - Today, Porsche Cars Canada, Ltd. unveiled two models as Canadian premieres at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto: the Macan Turbo with Performance Package and the 911 GT3 Cup car.
Macan Turbo with Performance Package tops off the model line
As the sportscar of the compact SUV segment, the Macan has been setting standards in terms of driving dynamics since it first made its debut. Now, Porsche is upping the ante once again: Equipped with the Performance Package, the Macan Turbo now tops off the model line, impressing with enhanced driving properties, increased agility and an even greater emotional appeal.
After the performance enhancement, the twin-turbocharged, 3.6-litre V6 engine delivers 440 horsepower. With 40 horsepower more than the Macan Turbo, this figure places this variant firmly in the top spot in the model line. The car now accelerates from zero to 100 km/h in just 4.4 seconds, a reduction of 0.4 seconds. It now achieves a top speed of 272 km/h, representing an increase of 6 km/h. The maximum torque has also risen to 442 pound feet and is available to the driver across a broad rev range of between 1,500 and 4,500 rpm. Moreover, in Sport Plus mode, the time taken to accelerate from 80 km/h to 120 km/h has dropped to 2.9 seconds, a reduction of 0.2 seconds.
However, it is not just the engine power that is given a boost in the Macan Turbo equipped with the Performance Package – a newly developed brake system, lowered body, controlled sports chassis, Sport Chrono Package, and sports exhaust system are all fitted as standard. The front axle features grooved brake discs with a diameter of 390 millimetres – 30 millimetres larger than on the Macan Turbo without Performance Package. The discs are gripped by six-piston red brake calipers. What's more, air suspension with self-levelling function and height adjustment is also standard. The Porsche Active Suspension Management (PASM) has also been optimally tuned to the body on the vehicle, which has been lowered by 10 millimetres.
With the standard Sport Chrono Package, drivers can ramp up the performance of the Macan Turbo even further. In Sport Plus mode, this package ensures the chassis; engine and transmission are tuned to sporty effect – accompanied by an even more enthusiastic sound from the sports exhaust system. The seven-speed PDK double-clutch transmission has been remapped to deliver faster response.
The Macan Turbo with Performance Package is arriving now with pricing starting at $97,600.
New 911 GT3 Cup with ultra-modern drive
Boasting a completely redeveloped drive, the rear of the world's most-produced GT racing car now houses a 4-litre, six-cylinder flat engine. Thanks to thoroughbred motorsport technology, the compact engine with direct fuel injection delivers peak performance of 485 hp. A range of innovative details also improve efficiency in addition to engine performance, ensuring even better durability of the naturally aspirated engine in racing mode and reduced maintenance costs. A new front apron and a new rear end improve the downforce of the new 911 GT3 Cup and therefore enhance traction and performance.
Porsche manufactures the 911 GT3 Cup on the same production line as the 911 road car in its main plant in Zuffenhausen. More than 3,000 units of the 911 GT3 Cup have been built in the 996, 997 and 991 model lines since 1998. This makes the brand cup racing car the most-produced and most-sold GT racing car in the world.
This vehicle will be racing in the 2017 season of the Ultra 94 GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Yokohama as the Platinum Cup Class.
