STORY SUMMARY: This year World Vision Canada polled Canadians to find out how they are feeling about the upcoming holiday season. Trending this year is the importance of helping others. The script below can be read by a station host, with audio from the spokesperson or the audio can be used as is.

SCRIPT

Reporter Script (audio can be used or station host can read these parts):

Every year the World Vision Gift Catalogue and Ipsos Reid poll Canadians across the country to get the pulse of what to expect in the holiday season ahead. Trending this year is the importance of helping others, while Canadians report an increasing frustration with an overly commercialized season and the pressure of gift giving.

Spokesperson Script:

Most Canadians, nine out of ten, feel that Christmas is becoming too commercial.

And 86% of Canadians say Christmas is about helping those in need; in fact we've seen a jump in the number of people intending to give to charity or give charitable gifts.

We know that Canadians are increasingly looking for more meaningful ways to spend the holidays.

Reporter Script:

This Christmas, many Canadian families have some sort of holiday tradition that involves supporting a charity. One popular way to do this is through The World Vision Gift Catalogue. There is a great selection of meaningful charity gift ideas for everyone. Visit www.worldvision.ca/gifts today.
