Pet memorial, cremation services offered at The Beach location
TORONTO, June 1 /CNW/ - Pets at Peace Pet Loss and Memorial Services is offering the GTA and surrounding area residents its first storefront location dedicated to serving bereaved pet owners. It's a sign of the times, as more pet owners apply a mindful approach to the death of their beloved pets.
Located at 2375A Queen Street East, and slated for a Saturday, June 5th opening, Pets at Peace Pet Loss and Memorial Services will offer a blessing of the animals from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Pets at Peace services include:
- Information about/and scheduling of individual pet cremation
- Urns, caskets and garden markers
- Memorial services
- Viewing and funeral services
"Pets are members of our family and provide love without judgment or conditions. We give pets everything possible in life. What about when they die?" observed Pets at Peace president Helen Hobbs, a licensed funeral director.
A 2010 RBC Annual Housing Survey, conducted by Ipsos Reid, shows that 56% of Canadians have pets in their homes. And, according to Ms. Hobbs, when pets die, owners "need someone to validate their feelings. Most are shocked at the grief they feel. We focus on helping bereaved pet owners."
Louis McCann, executive director of the Ottawa-based Pet Industry Joint Advisory Council of Canada, says the bond between pet and pet owner has intensified in the past 10 years. And, pet owners are "absolutely" dealing differently with the death of their pets - and that's why there's a demand for products and services to address their needs.
"More companies are offering services never seen before," he noted. "This represents a change."
Prices for individual pet cremation start at $225 for small animals weighing up to 20 lbs. Packages include the transfer of the pet from the vet's office or family home; private, individual cremation; urn, cremation certificate and return of ashes within one week. Memorial services can also be arranged for an additional charge of $125. A viewing and funeral service with cremation is also available for $200.
Pets at Peace Pet Loss and Memorial Services (www.petsatpeace.ca) is operated by licensed funeral directors who are also pet owners. Ms. Hobbs has owned and operated Pets at Peace since 2003. Staff adheres to high moral and ethical standards and is committed to providing dignified and respectful final arrangements for pets. All animals are cremated individually, and a cremation certificate is provided to pet owners.
