VANCOUVER, Jan. 13 /CNW Telbec/ - The Eggs Go For Gold School (EGGS) Program and Project CHEF worked together to bring BC Paralympian, Andrea Holmes, to a local elementary school to teach children how to make the breakfast of champions. The EGGS Program was created through a partnership between the BC Egg Marketing Board (BCEMB) and the Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC).
Paralympian Andrea Holmes and Project CHEF's Barb Finley visited University Hill Elementary School today to cook an "egg"-citing pancake dish with fifth grade students. Through the EGGS Program, Ms. Holmes is touring a number of elementary schools, telling her remarkable story and highlighting BC eggs as a natural source of essential nutrients that provides lasting energy, balanced health, and mental alertness.
"I think it's really important to teach children the importance nutrition plays in athletic success," said Paralympian Andrea Holmes, four-time Canadian Paralympic champion in long jump and three-time Canadian champion in the 100m. "I've been having a great time helping them learn how to cook a healthy egg-based breakfast and hope it will leave a lasting impression about the importance of a healthy and active lifestyle."
Made with fresh BC eggs, this recipe is sure to please athletes and families alike.
"This recipe uses local BC eggs to create a delicious and complete meal that all British Columbians can enjoy," said BCEMB Chair, Richard King. "Andrea's story is inspiring. We are thrilled that our EGGS Program is touching many BC children with the message of reaching personal bests."
