Ottawa Dentist Shares Results from an Invisalign Tooth Movement Study

An Ottawa dentist reviews study results from an anterior region Invisalign treatment analysis.

OTTAWA, Nov. 20, 2012 /CNW/ - A Mainz, Germany, private practice and scholars from the Medical Centre of the Johannes Gutenberg-University examined tooth movement results from patients treated with Invisalign. The results were published online in the Journal of Orofacial Orthopedics.

Drs. David Bartos and Mark Northcott, Ottawa cosmetic dentistry providers, know the powers of Invisalign treatment. Their office offers dental implants, IV sedation and Invisalign treatment in greater Ottawa.

The study scrutinized 50 real Invisalign cases, comparing the before and after casts as well as the primary and closing ClinCheck simulations. ClinCheck shows patients individual treatment plans and anticipated outcomes. The sample's average crowding index was 5.96 mm for the lower dentition and 5.39 mm for the upper dentition, using the Little irregularity index. After Invisalign treatment these values reflected averages of 0.82 mm and 1.57 mm respectively.

Extreme front teeth crowding was effectively achieved with Invisalign treatment, according to study results. Researchers also found the patients' ClinCheck expectations to be true to their real results.

"Resolving lower anterior crowding by protrusion of the anterior teeth (i.e., enlargement of the anterior arch length) seems well predictable," according to the research.

Bartos, an Ottawa Invisalign provider, can show Invisalign patients how the aligners will give them straighter smiles. With these study results, patients can trust that the predicted results will be accomplished.

Invisalign, created by Align Technology, corrects a variety of alignment issues, including gapping, crowding, overbites and underbites. Doctors design an individual treatment plan involving a series of plastic, removable aligners. These aligners are comfortable and hardly noticeable, and patients enjoy taking them out to eat and drink. Every few weeks, a new aligner set encourages teeth to glide into their ideal positions. Most patients complete Invisalign treatment in a year to a year and half. Invisalign Teen comes with added benefits for younger patients, including replacement sets for lost aligners and blue dots to show how long aligners have been worn.

This study further iterates how Invisalign is improving smiles and sparking confidence in patients across the globe. More than 1.5 million patients smile brighter because of Invisalign.
