Ontario Nurses Join Injured Workers' Rally

TORONTO, May 31 /CNW/ - Members of the Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) Board of Directors will join front-line registered nurses and many others at a Queen's Park rally tomorrow marking Injured Workers' Day.

June 1 is the 27th anniversary of the day when more than 3,000 injured workers, their families and supporters rallied at Queen's Park to successfully advocate for changes to the Compensation Act.

ONA President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN, notes that, "The Ministry of Labour says the health-care sector has the fourth-highest rate of lost-time injuries. When our nurses suffer workplace injuries, they also find they must often battle the Workplace Safety & Insurance Board."

The ONA President will be part of the ONA contingent rallying at Queen's Park at 11 am. She will be available to speak to the media.

ONA is the union representing 55,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 12,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
