Northern Lakes College opens the Shell Canada Power Engineering and Technology Centre

PEACE RIVER, AB, Feb. 27, 2015 /CNW/ - Project supporters and community leaders  joined college officials for the grand opening of the Northern Lakes College Shell Canada Power Engineering and Technology Centre in Peace River, Alberta. Representatives from the Government of Canada, Town of Peace River and Northern Sunrise County, along with industry partners, Shell Canada and Penn West Exploration, were present. Northern Lakes College announced the Peace Regional Power Engineering Project in 2012 with the goal of raising funds to create a power engineering lab in Peace River to close the gap between the high demand and low supply of power engineers in northern Alberta.

The power lab began its first intake of students in February 2015 and will provide the necessary steam time for over 80 students a year, as well as dual credit high school students, to become third and fourth class power engineers.  Northern Lakes College News Release.
