News Advisory - OPSEU president to tour Humber College to promote union rights for part-timers

TORONTO, March 22, 2016 /CNW/ - The president of the Ontario Public Service Employees Union will tour the main campus of Humber College Wednesday to continue his union's drive to organize part-time support staff at college campuses across Ontario.

Warren (Smokey) Thomas will hold a media availability at the start of the tour.

Date:

Wednesday, March 23, 2016

Time:

10:30 a.m.

Place:

Canopy over parking meters outside main entrance of Learning Resource Commons, Humber College, 205 Humber College Blvd., Toronto

"College presidents like Chris Whitaker at Humber are actively working to keep part-time support staff far away from union organizers," Thomas said. "I've been told I'm not welcome on campus.

"I'm going there to give Chris Whitaker and his $425,000 salary a simple message: workers have a right to unionize, and interfering in an organizing drive violates that right."
