OTTAWA, Feb. 7 /CNW/ - New Democrats in Ottawa West-Nepean joined NDP Leader Andrea Horwath to nominate Pam FitzGerald as their candidate in the by-election on March 4 at a packed nomination meeting today.
"Pam has been a champion for excellent schools, quality healthcare and a better deal for Ottawa families. She's exactly the sort of woman we need at Queen's Park," said Horwath. "Under the McGuinty Liberals people are losing jobs and pensions, seeing cuts in local hospitals and getting hit with an unfair sales tax that leaves them paying more and getting less. On March 4 voters can send Dalton McGuinty a message by sending Pam to Queen's Park."
Pam has served as School Trustee at the Ottawa-Carleton District School Board since 2006 and as the Executive Director of the Canadian Health Coalition. As the Executive Coordinator of the Midwifery Group of Ottawa, she helped establish the first legally-recognized practice of midwives in the Ottawa area. Pam has served on the boards of two community health centres and a daycare, as the chair of a community housing project, and for two years as the chair of Ottawa-Carleton Assembly of School Councils (OCASC), the largest association of school councils in Ontario. She's lived in Ottawa for 30 years, where she raised her children, Gabriel and Nick.
