New date for inquest into the death of Peter John Haveman announced

THUNDER BAY, ON, Oct. 9 /CNW/ - Dr. David H. Evans, Regional Supervising Coroner for North Region, Thunder Bay Office, today announced that a new date has been set for the inquest into the death of Peter John Haveman originally scheduled to begin on October 19, 2009.

Mr. Haveman, 18, died on October 11, 2007, from injuries received during the course of his employment at a construction site in Thunder Bay. Under the Coroners Act, an inquest is mandatory when a worker dies as a result of an accident occurring at a construction project.

The inquest will examine the circumstances surrounding Mr. Haveman's death. The jury may make recommendations aimed at preventing similar deaths.

The inquest will now begin 9:30 a.m. on Wednesday, October 21, 2009, at the Ontario Government Building, 189 Red River Road, Thunder Bay. Dr. David Legge will preside as inquest coroner and Ms. Elaine Burton will be counsel to the coroner.
