New CEO appointed for the College Employer Council

TORONTO, July 14, 2015 /CNW/ - The College Employer Council Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of David Brook as CEO, effective September 14, 2015.

Mr. Brook will join the Council from his current role as Director of Labour Relations with the University Health Network in Toronto, where he is responsible for negotiating collective agreements covering thousands of unionized employees working at the Toronto General Hospital, Toronto Western Hospital, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre and Toronto Rehabilitation Institute.

Mr. Brook also brings experience from senior roles from various ministries within the Ontario Public Service, where he led collective bargaining and benefits/compensation strategy development and implementation on a province-wide basis as the Director, Union/Management Relations.  In this role, Mr. Brook was responsible for the conduct of large scale collective bargaining with eight bargaining agents representing over 55,000 employees working across Ontario in diverse functions and ministries within the OPS.

Mr. Brook holds a Master of Laws, Labour and Employment Law from Osgoode Hall, a Master of Industrial Relations from Queen's, and a Bachelor of Arts (Honours), in Psychology from the University of Western Ontario.

"I look forward to working with Mr. Brook to build upon the excellent results achieved under Mr. Sinclair's leadership over the last few years, helping college boards with the continuous improvement of governance practices.  I am confident that Mr. Brook brings the depth of experience and the leadership skills required in this role.  The position of CEO is critical – particularly in these difficult economic circumstances, as we work to support colleges who produce the highly skilled workforce essential to Ontario's prosperity."
- Council Board Chair Lise Cloutier, Chair of the Board of Collège La Cité

"We faced a significant challenge in recruiting a successor to our founding CEO Don Sinclair, who has been an extremely effective leader. My colleagues and I were delighted that the search attracted many strong candidates. David Brook was our unanimous recommendation to Council to serve as the next CEO – his experience, dynamic and innovative leadership, and collaborative approach, will enable the Council team to build on its strong foundation of success for CEC's future."
- Maureen Piercy, Vice-Chair of Council and Chair of the selection committee, President and CEO of Loyalist College

"I am proud and honoured to be appointed to the role of CEO of the College Employer Council. Ontario's colleges play an essential role in the province.  I look forward to the opportunity to build upon the strong foundation established by the Council and will work with our stakeholders to develop effective and innovative labour relations and human resources strategies that contribute to the success of these vital institutions."
- David Brook
