Need a Source - Throne Speech and Online Child Exploitation Measures

Paula Knight, Founder of the Mothers Online Movement and Vice President, Corporate Image and Business Excellence, Microsoft Canada offers perspective on Throne Speech

TORONTO, March 4 /CNW/ - Microsoft Canada has been dedicated to addressing issues of online safety for the past decade. Recognizing the fundamental importance of protecting Canadian children, the company works with experts and industry partners to ensure that, through education and technological innovation, the Internet is a place where children can have a safe and positive experience.

Today the government announced that it will introduce legislation that will increase the penalties for sexual offences against children particularly as it relates to online child luring and cyber abuse. As founder of the Mothers Online Movement, a community that advocates for the rights of victims and raises funds and awareness of the issue of online child exploitation, Paula is engaged in these issues and can speak to the following:

    - Explain the need for government policy and legislation that address
issues relating to online child exploitation and safety.

    - Discuss how Microsoft and partners are at the forefront of Internet
        safety initiatives.

    - Speak to how the Mothers Online Movement works to protect children
        from online exploitation.
