Minister Geoffrey Kelley attends ground-breaking ceremony for the Mesgi'g Ugju's'n wind farm

ESCUMINAC, QC, June 22, 2015 /CNW Telbec/ - The Minister responsible for Native Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Kelley, attended the inauguration of the construction site for the Mesgi'g Ugju's'n wind farm today. The site, which is located along the boundaries of the Municipality of Escuminac in the Gaspé, will cost $330 million.

"This initiative gives the Mi'gmaq communities of Gespeg, Gesgapegiag, and Listuguj their rightful place in terms of regional development in the Gaspé. By creating economic partnerships such as this, we can support the development of this beautiful region, with its innumerable assets and resources. I sincerely hope that several other projects will be undertaken in the coming years," stated the Minister.

The Mesgi'g Ugju's'n wind farm will have 89 wind turbines, which will produce 150 megawatts. At the peak of construction, 300 workers will be employed at the site, including about 100 Mi'gmaqs. Innergex, which is managing the site, will own 40% and the Mi'gmaqs 60%. The site is expected to generate revenues in the order of $150 million over the next 20 years.
