$160,000 cheque presented in Ottawa, Ontario on April 8
OTTAWA, April 9 /CNW/ - On Thursday, April 8, Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade presented the Canadian Breast Cancer Network (CBCN) with a $160,000 cheque at the Rideau and King Edward LCBO store in Ottawa, Ontario. Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade established a twelve-month partnership with the CBCN in April 2009 to help raise funds for a much needed 'National Young Women Living with Breast Cancer' conference and other important breast cancer survivor initiatives. The conference is due to take place in October, assuming adequate funds have been raised.
Like many families, Mike's family has been affected by breast cancer. "As a Canadian company, Mike wanted to give back to the community in a way which makes a real difference to Canadians," says Kevin Lynch, Vice President of Mike's Central and Eastern regions. "True to his style, Mike did not just want to write a cheque to a large anonymous organization. He wanted to work with the CBCN because like us, they are a smaller, extremely hardworking organization and they contribute directly in a meaningful way to Canadians." The Canadian Breast Cancer Network partnership and the support of the LCBO has made this possible. Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade is donating 25 percent of all sales profits to the CBCN. This year, the campaign has raised $160,000.
With only five full time employees, the largely volunteer-run Canadian Breast Cancer Network uses more than 90 percent of all donations to fund their national support network and advocacy initiatives for breast cancer survivors and their families.
The Canadian Breast Cancer Network (CBCN) is a survivor-directed, national network of organizations and individuals. CBCN is a national link between all groups and individuals concerned about breast cancer, and represents the concerns of all Canadians affected by breast cancer and those at risk.
About Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade
Mike's Hard Pink Lemonade is a variety of the Canadian original Mike's Hard Lemonade. The all-natural flavour was created by blending red berries with real lemon juice. To raise awareness of the charity campaign, a newly designed Breast Cancer Survivors ribbon was co-designed with the Canadian Breast Cancer Network and added to the label.
