TORONTO, Sept. 4, 2012 /CNW/ - Mercedes-Benz Canada and its national dealer network reported today that the company has retailed a grand total of 2,493 Mercedes-Benz and smart units in August. This represents an increase of 8.4% for the month, and brings overall growth for the group to 9.7% with 23,399 units delivered in 2012.
A total of 2,017 Mercedes-Benz passenger cars and luxury light trucks were sold in August. With 20,150 units sold so far this year, Mercedes-Benz passenger car and luxury light truck sales show a gain of 9.0% or 1,656 units on a year-to-date basis.
Passenger car sales totaled 1,268 units in August, which was fueled by impressive C-Class, E-Class, S-Class and SL-Class sales. The all-new SL-Class roadster continued to report record sales momentum, and the S-Class also had an exceptional month with sales up 38.3%.
On the luxury light truck side, a total of 749 vehicles were delivered. This represents a gain of 6.4% for the month, and helped push year-to-date growth to a notable 26.7% or 1,840 units with 8,741 vehicles retailed. These record-breaking sales increases can be largely attributed to sustained, outstanding demand for the all-new M-Class and the GL-Class, with both posting gains of 75.8% and 158.2% respectively in August.
The diesel take rate for luxury light trucks was 82.0% for the month, while permanent all-wheel drive 4MATIC™ units accounted for 84.4% of overall passenger car and luxury light truck sales in August (excluding smart).
smart reported a total of 286 vehicles sold. This is an increase of 120.0% or 156 units compared to August 2011, and has helped propel year-to-date growth to 14.6% with 1,482 smart fortwos retailed so far in 2012.
Mercedes-Benz Sprinter sales reported a 27.5% increase for the month with 190 units delivered. A total of 1,767 Sprinters have been retailed year-to-date, which represents an increase of 14.1%.
The Mercedes-Benz Pre-Owned division reported 1,328 vehicles sold in August. This helped bring year-to-date growth to 13.0%, with 9,835 Certified Pre-Owned units delivered in 2012.
