BRISBANE, Australia and SAN FRANCISCO, Feb. 22, 2016 /CNW/ -- Megaport, a global leader in software defined networking (SDN) based elastic interconnection, today announced that Akamai is connecting its Intelligent Platform® to the Megaport Elastic Fabric in all of Megaport's global markets to distribute content delivery network (CDN) services to Megaport customers.
With the onboarding of Akamai's Intelligent Platform®, Megaport will make it easy for customers to provision direct connections to Akamai's CDN platform in any market where Megaport has a presence. Localising traffic through direct connections with Akamai enables fast and reliable access to key content.
Denver Maddux, Chief Executive Officer, Megaport said: "The addition of Akamai to the Megaport ecosystem maps perfectly to our global footprint. Giving Megaport's customers the ability to access localised traffic in key markets ensures better performance and delivers efficiencies in scaling capacity by limiting the amount of backhaul necessary to deliver content."
Christian Kaufmann, Senior Director Network Services at Akamai Technologies added: "The Akamai Intelligent Platform is already deployed in more than 1,400 networks. Our global agreement with Megaport provides further options to interconnect and bring popular web content closer to end-users. As such we are aiming to reduce bandwidth costs while joining forces to improve web experience for more people around the globe."
Megaport operates in 54 data centres across thirteen markets in Australia, New Zealand, Singapore, Hong Kong, and United States and is currently expanding its presence into additional data centres in North America and Europe in key markets including Toronto, London, Dublin, Amsterdam, and Stockholm.
