Media Invitation - Hayley Wickenheiser to help raise millions for kids-in-need at 31st annual CIBC Miracle Day

Kids from the Calgary Public Library Foundation's It's a Crime Not to Read Program will join CIBC for a special event as part of the day's celebrations

CALGARY, Dec. 2, 2015 /CNW/ - CIBC (CM: TSX) (CM: NYSE) invites media to join Women's World Hockey Champion Hayley Wickenheiser as she lends a hand on the trading floor to help raise millions for kids-in-need at the 31st annual CIBC Miracle Day. Last year CIBC Miracle Day raised more than $5.5 million, in support of more than 550 children's charities across Canada. All money raised in Calgary stays in the community benefitting local organizations like the Calgary Sinawik Youth Foundation & the Boys & Girls Clubs of Canada.

To mark this year's celebration a special cheque presentation - representing a $1 million commitment - will be made to the Children's Aid Foundation. In addition, kids from It's a Crime Not to Read, an award-winning uniquely "Made in Calgary" initiative that connects students in Grades 2 - 4 with members of the Calgary Police Service by way of reading, will be treated to a separate, special event.

WHAT:  Special guests and not-for-profit organizations join CIBC to celebrate the 31st annual CIBC Miracle Day.

The late Tim Miller and the investment advisors at the 42nd Street branch - named after the famous 42nd Street in New York and located on the 42nd floor of the Head Office - decided to donate their commissions for one day of business to children's charities. For people who count on commissions for their livelihood, giving them up - even if only for one day - was a sacrifice. However, the branch's Investment Advisors were fully supportive of the initiative.

The branch called it Miracle on 42nd Street and raised $163,935 in that first year.  While CIBC Miracle Day has grown expeditiously, the original objective has stayed the same: Investing in the lives of children to help prepare them for the future and to make sure that tomorrow's citizens are backed by a strong portfolio of skills and support.
