Media Advisory - TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay to Celebrate in Calgary on July 3

Pan Am flame will participate in Calgary Stampede Parade and visit Canada's Sports Hall of Fame

CALGARY, July 1, 2015 /CNW/ - On Friday, July 3, Day 34 of the Pan Am Games Torch Relay, presented by President's Choice® and OLG, the Pan Am flame will visit Calgary, Alberta.

The flame will be carried by several torchbearers in this year's Stampede parade alongside a specially-designed torch relay float. Following the parade, the flame will make its way to Canada's Sports Hall of Fame for a community celebration.

Friday, July 3, 2015 (Relay Day 34: Calgary, AB)

Calgary Stampede Parade 9:15 a.m. (MT) (6 Avenue. SE at 3 St. SE – 9 Avenue SE at 4 Street SE)

  • Flame to be carried by a number of torchbearers during the parade, including:
    • Kyle Shewfelt – Olympic gold medallist, gymnastics
    • Kendra Ohama – Paralympic gold medallist, wheelchair basketball
    • Carol Huynh – Olympic multi-medallist, wrestling
    • Nicole Luchanski – Team Canada member, women's baseball
    • Haley Irwin – Olympic gold medallist, hockey
    • Cody Yano – Pan Am medallist, diving
      *Torchbearers will be available for interview in parade form-up near Fort Calgary on Riverfront Avenue SE between 7 a.m. and 8 a.m. (East Village, float #28)

Community celebration:

  • Michelle Cameron Coulter, Olympic gold medallist, swimming will pass the Pan Am flame to Sydney Soloski, junior elite gymnast.

The Pan Am Games Torch Relay is a 41-day journey that will share the Pan Am spirit in more than 130 communities. The torch relay is one of the most exciting events as it sets the stage leading up to the Games.  There will be more than 3,000 torchbearers and 180 community celebrations taking place.

About the TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay  
The TORONTO 2015 Pan Am Games Torch Relay, presented by President's Choice® and OLG, is supported by community partner CIBC, signature supporters Star Media Group and Metroland Media, Ontario Trillium Foundation and Porter Airlines, and funding parties the Government of Canada and the Province of Ontario. The torch relay will invite Canadians to celebrate and share the Pan Am spirit throughout its 41-day journey towards Toronto, the Host City of the Games.

The torch relay starts May 30, 2015, and concludes July 10, 2015, with the dramatic lighting of the cauldron at the Opening Ceremony in downtown Toronto.
