VANCOUVER, Sept. 15, 2016 /CNW/ - The Jack Webster Foundation today announced that Rob Dykstra, a 32-year member of the Langara College Journalism Program, will receive the 2016 Bill Good Award at the 30th Annual Jack Webster Awards Dinner on October 20, 2016.
The dinner, featuring CBC Chief Correspondent Peter Mansbridge, will also honour the past year's best journalists with coveted Webster statues in 13 news categories.
The Jack Webster Foundation was established in 1986 by the community to recognize excellence in British Columbia journalism in honour of legendary BC reporter, Jack Webster. The Bill Good Award was announced in 2014 to honour Bill Good on his retirement from 50 years as a broadcast journalist at CTV, CKNW, BCTV (now Global BC) and CBC. The Bill Good Award honours a BC journalist, broadcaster, builder or educator who makes a significant contribution to the field of journalism or the community-at-large.
Rob has dedicated much of his professional life to teaching generations of journalists – more than 1,000 in total. Retired earlier this year, Rob served as instructor, co-ordinator and chair of the Langara Journalism Program. He oversaw the introduction of new courses, launched the Langara Journalism Review, and taught most every course in the Journalism Program curriculum. His legacy will always be the members of the media in BC and nationally who received the benefit of his knowledgeable instruction. Rob has made a profound contribution to journalism in our province.
The 30th Annual Jack Webster Awards Dinner will be held October 20th at the Hyatt Regency Hotel, Vancouver. Tickets are $185.00 per person and can be reserved at jackwebster.com/dinner or by calling 604-261-6184.
The work of the Foundation is made possible by the generous sponsorship of CN, Fortis BC, HSBC Bank Canada, Labatt Breweries, Port of Vancouver, Wazuku Advisory Group and TELUS.
