GUELPH, ON, Sept. 23, 2014 /CNW/ -
What:
Reid's Heritage Homes invites members of the media to the inaugural groundbreaking event as construction begins on the first Net Zero Energy Home as part of a national demonstration program that will almost double the amount of Net Zero Energy homes in Canada. Net Zero Energy homes produce at least as much energy as they consume.
Reid's Heritage Homes will construct five Net Zero Energy Homes in Guelph by 2016 as part of the national program, and these will include advanced heating, cooling and ventilation systems; high-efficiency windows; superior levels of insulation and air tightness; solar panels that feed back to the grid; and many other environmentally progressive features.
The National program involves five Canadian homebuilders constructing a total of 25 net zero energy homes in four provinces. The program is funded in part by the ecoENERGY Innovation Initiative (ecoEII), with contributions from each participating builder, industry suppliers and Owens Corning Canada. The program, in partnership with Natural Resources Canada, aims to prove that Net Zero Energy homes can be built across Canada on a community-level scale.
