Media Advisory - Refreshing Canada's Defence Strategy: Event

CALGARY, Nov. 30, 2015 /CNW/ - Military procurement is a very complex business; understood in detail by few, scrutinized and criticized by many. As the world remains a dangerous and unstable place, Canada's overall security is tied to our ability to project power if and when needed and that means a well- equipped and modern military. Will recent high-profile setbacks in military procurement threaten Canada's ability to get the new kit needed to make our military strong, and responsive?

The new Liberal government has committed to immediately begin a review of Canada's defence strategy and capabilities with the goal of delivering a more effective, better - equipped military.

Media are invited to join The School of Public Policy and the Canadian Global Affairs Institute as we bring experts together to find real, practical solutions to the procurement problem to inform this review.

Experts include:

  • Rob Fonberg, Former Deputy Minister, Department of National Defence, and Executive Fellow, The School of Public Policy, University of Calgary
  • D. Mike Day, Lieutenant-General (Retired), Deputy Commander, Allied Joint Force Command, Naples
  • David Perry, Senior Analyst, Canadian Global Affairs Institute
