Media Advisory - Ontario Nurses' Association to make presentation on LHINs: will call on LHINs to safeguard the delivery of quality patient care

HAMILTON, ON, Jan. 27, 2014 /CNW/ - Ontario Nurses' Association (ONA) President Linda Haslam-Stroud, RN will make a presentation to the Standing Committee on Social Policy in Hamilton tomorrow to recommend that the province's 14 LHINs work to safeguard the delivery of safe, high-quality patient care.

Haslam-Stroud, a long-time renal transplant nurse from Hamilton, says the concerns about the Local Health Integration Networks in Ontario are centered around their failure to safeguard the delivery of quality care for Ontario patients or the practice conditions for nurses.

Haslam-Stroud notes that when LHINs were created, the objective was to create a comprehensive system of care drive by the needs of local patients and communities. She says the LHINs needs to get back on track.

Haslam-Stroud will make her presentation at the Hamilton Sheraton Hotel, Centre Ballroom at 9:45 am.

ONA is the union representing 60,000 registered nurses and allied health professionals, as well as more than 14,000 nursing student affiliates providing care in hospitals, long-term care facilities, public health, the community, clinics and industry.
