Media Advisory - Ministers of education to meet in Charlottetown

TORONTO, July 2, 2014 /CNW/ - Provincial and territorial ministers of education will be in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, for the 103rd meeting of the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, July 8‒9, and to attend the "Skills for the Future" symposium, July 9‒10.

CMEC 103 will give ministers the opportunity to review progress on CMEC activities and discuss a wide variety of current issues in education. Of particular note:

  • Ministers will be meeting with the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRCC) to discuss the ongoing impact of Indian Residential Schools;
  • Ministers will formally announce that Canada is hosting the 5th International Summit on the Teaching Profession in 2015.

The "Skills for the Future" symposium, which is being co-hosted by provincial and territorial education and labour ministers, will bring together government, business, labour, academic leaders, and student groups to examine innovative promising practices in Canada and other countries to address the skills and training challenges of the 21st century.
