MEDIA ADVISORY - Hon. Deb Matthews and Glen Hodgson to speak at symposium on powering up Ontario's economy

TORONTO, June 17, 2016 /CNW/ - Hon. Deb Matthews, the Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, and Conference Board of Canada senior vice-president Glen Hodgson are among the featured speakers at a June 20 symposium in Toronto on strengthening Ontario's workforce.

More than 150 CEOs, government representatives, senior educators, students and others will be participating in the symposium, called Shifting into High Gear: Powering a High-Performance Economy. The half-day event will be moderated by TVO's Steve Paikin.

Other featured speakers at the event include Jeffrey Lyash, the president and CEO of Ontario Power Generation, and Jayson Myers, the president and CEO of Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters.

Georjann Morriseau, the director of First Nation relations and aboriginal affairs at Resolute Forest Products, and former chief of Fort William First Nation, will be speaking about the importance of the aboriginal workforce. As well, there will be remarks by Carol Campbell and Pradeep Sood, members of the Premier's Highly Skilled Workforce Strategy Expert Panel.

The symposium takes place on Monday, June 20, at the Sheraton Centre Toronto Hotel, starting at 8 a.m. In addition to the featured remarks, there will be a panel discussion among top CEOs from across Ontario and a town-hall discussion with the audience. The symposium is open to the media.
