Media Advisory - Hiroshima Commemorative Ceremony at the Montréal Botanical Garden

MONTREAL, Aug. 4, 2014 /CNW Telbec/ - Anie Samson, Vice-Chair of the Montreal Executive Committee, and Charles-Mathieu Brunelle, Executive Director of Montréal Space for Life, invite media representatives to attend the peace ceremony commemorating the victims of the Hiroshima bombing. The event will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, August 5, in the Japanese Garden at the Montréal Botanical Garden.

During this moment of contemplation, the Peace Bell will be sounded in the Japanese Garden as a reminder of this terrible event on August 6, 1945, when the atomic bomb wiped out tens of thousands of lives in Hiroshima.

This is a rare opportunity to hear this bell, a reminder of the passing years and the pressing need to come together to work for world peace. The bell will ring 69 times throughout the day on August 6 to commemorate the tragedy.

Date:    Tuesday, August 5, 2014
Time:   7:15 p.m. - Ms. Samson and Mr. Arai, Consul General of Japan in
Montréal, will ring the Peace Bell simultaneously with the
pealing of the one in Hiroshima, at the exact time when the bomb was dropped on the city.
